Books I'm Reading ...

I love to read.  My idea of a great day off is sitting out at the ocean with a great book.  Here's what's on my reading list ...

Killing Lincoln

Bill O'Reilly's latest book is a departure from his usual topics of culture and politics.   Killing Lincoln is a historical book about the assassination of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln.

I've always considered President Lincoln our nation's best president. Yes, we've had other good ones ... Washington, Reagan, Roosevelt, Truman and some others.  But Lincoln falls into a class uniquely his own.  This was a man who faced adversity unknown to any other American leader. We've had war time presidents, but Lincoln faced the prospect of a United States no longer united but coming apart.  Lincoln was despised by scores.  This was a man who felt adversity every moment of his presidency.  Yet he met every challenge and saved our nation.  The example of the life he led is something every American should study.

O'Reilly calls President Lincoln a decent, compassionate, honorable man.  He is also a hero.  An American hero. And we could use more men like him today.

The Los Angeles Dodgers! ...

Well there's nothing but good news about the Dodgers as far as I'm concerned.

The bidding for the team is moving along nicely.  One of my favorite baseball guys, Joe Torre, has resigned his position with MLB and partnered up with Los Angeles Real Estate developer Rick Caruso (The Grove).

There are several other groups looking to acquire the team but the Torre/Caruso team is my favorite.

Mr. Caruso is a dedicated Angeleno who is frequently mentioned as a candidate for the L.A. Mayor's office.

Joe Torre is simply a terrific guy I like a whole lot.  In addition to his fantastic baseball talents and world series wins, his work on behalf of abused children and "Safe at Home/Margaret's Place" is a foundation that saves the lives of more children than most could imagine. Joe Torre is simply a fantastic human being.

If you want to know more about Joe's terrific foundation, please watch this video ...  http://bcove.me/qc48877w

I'm hoping we can get the new ownership installe
d by Opening Day 2012.  That might be a lot to ask for but I'm hoping and keeping my fingers crossed.

As always, play ball!
